Since the 2015 ousting of President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi by the Houthi movement, civil war and military intervention led by Saudi Arabia has plunged Yemen into chaos. According to the United Nations, Yemen is currently facing the largest humanitarian crisis in the world, with three-quarters of the population now requiring urgent aid.
The conflict is taking an enormous toll on Yemen’s civilian population, who face indiscriminate attacks, bombing, snipers, kidnapping, sexual violence, and arbitrary detention among other dangers. Yemen is simultaneously facing the world’s largest cholera outbreak and most drastic case of food insecurity.
The United States continues to support Saudi Arabia, even as they impose blockades that prevent aid from entering the country and intervene for their own economic benefit.
